12Mar18 - Gym day

12th March 2018
After an incredible weekend watching friends and team mates run the Barcelona Marathon, Monday was always going to be tough. It started a lot worse than I'd imagined though. The new brace arrived and I put it on just before leaving to go to work to go to the gym before the office. I drove to work in it and it was a bit sore, mainly because it was too big and was digging into my ankle bone. I walked to the gym from the car and had to take it off. The swelling on my ankle bone was massive, like nothing caused by the other brace. I couldn't actually feel the bone under the swelling. This really worried me and I got quite upset seeing it, because I hadn't actually done any exercise in it and it was this bad. I decided to do a 2KM row, as the new gym still was out of action and so my options were limited. The row itself went well, and I was a minute faster than last week.

But the ankle was still swollen, if not a bit more now. I had planned to do another 2KM row but I was so agitated and panicked that I just packed up and went for a shower. Mid morning I had to ask the first aider for an ice pack because it was throbbing so badly and was still very swollen.

I don't know what to do for the best. It was a really bad day - I was tired and therefore could not see any good in anything. Seeing so many people run such good marathons at the weekend made me feel so insignificant and pathetic. I'm struggling to do a 10 mile race. I shouldn't moan, complain or say anything more about how I'm feeling - it really doesn't matter. If I was doing a marathon maybe but I'm not. It is only 10 miles and I should just get on and do it no matter the consequences. If I have a bad day on race day, I'll just go home and let everyone else talk about it and congratulate themselves. My negativity shouldn't be seen by anyone else. The same goes for training runs. Just do them and get on with the rest of the day.
