13Mar2018 - Tuesday 4 miler
13th March 2018
In: Running 2018
I liked the four mile route I did last week from home, rather than the one from work - partly because it means I can shower at home not in the gatehouse, so I decided I would do it again this week. With my ankle being so sore, I didn't wear a brace at all - and would see how it goes. I took my phone with me in case it went terribly and I needed rescuing, but I didn't know who I would call do actually rescue me so I'm glad I didn't need to be.
The run went well I think, I was not at all tired or running to exhaustion. I spent the whole time pulling myself back for going to fast. I was meant to do 11mm for the first mile, then 2 faster miles at 10mm and a cool down again at 11mm. Although I felt good, my pacing was off and all miles were too fast. I don't know what this really means in terms of my training other than it isn't what's on the plan and I get told it was too fast. It was better than last week, but not good enough. This is why I think Friday's run was so good. There was no way I could get down about not sticking to a pace if I didn't have a planned pace. I will change my watch setting so it shows average pace for the mile next time, and instead of working hard at the end of the miles, I'll slow down until it is right. It doesn't seem the best way to run at all.
My foot was awful. There was no bend in it at all, it just plonked on the floor as if to support my body whilst my right leg was in the air. I think this was one of the reasons I was going too fast, it was really hard to hear and see my foot doing this, doing the wrong thing, doing something different from the right foot. I just wanted to get home. It took a lot of willpower to do the full 4 miles and not cut the last mile short and jog home the quick way.
I should probably stop training until I get my ankle sorted but I've got just over 2 weeks left until Maidenhead and I'm not quitting now. I said at the beginning that I wouldn't be able to do this run, with a variety of reasons in my head. I actually don't want to be right - I want the people who said I can, to win. Because they deserve to be right.
