Gosh, this took a long time tonight! An hour and a half, and 50 photos later, and I am finally pleased with the result. Ended up using my zoom lens on the tripod, quite far out, so as to avoid having the camera and/or me in reflected in the shiny surface. As I take photos in raw format now, I just adjusted the blacks and highlights in photoshop (camera raw), and this really brought out the golden colour nicely.

I am pleased to have captured a nice shot of this barometer, as it is my prize for winning the running club's annual handicap series of races in September. I'll have to give it back in September, but the photo will last forever.
