Goodbye to the bar
03rd May 2014
Finally, the weekend before our extension starts, has arrived. It is a bank holiday weekend, so we have 3 days to prepare the house for its forthcoming alterations. For months, Paul has wanted to take a sledgehammer to the "bar" area under the stairs, but I've not given permission knowing it would leave the under-stairs-storage-hole open, with no door. Today, permission was granted. He was very careful, and did a good, neat job, as can be seen in the photos, and got to use the sledgehammer, regular hammer, angle grinder and drill. Apparently we need a crow-bar. Too much Jack Reacher.
Photo 1: Before... So this is the bar we have lived with for 3 years. The majority of the bottles have been in situ for the entire period - good time for a clear out.

Photo 2: Work begins - cocktail shaker in one hand, hammer in the other.

Photo 3: Sledgehammer is out...Suggest this is a good time to remove the bottles from their holes?

Photo 4: And now the angle grinder - must have a straight line, despite the wall and entire staircase being on the hit list for the renovations.

Photo 5: With a bit of a wiggle, the plasterboard wall comes free...

Photo 6: And here we are - left with a big hole under the stairs with no door.

At least we don't need to go to the tip with the debris - hopefully we will have a skip on the driveway soon.
