Week 1, day 1: There's no turning back now!
06th May 2014
May 6th, 2014. Day 1. We've been anticipating this day for months now, wondering if it will ever come. Now it has, and there is definitely no turning back. Kerry and Jimmy arrived before 7.30 in the morning, raring to go and quickly started moving all their tools in. The plan was for a skip to arrive mid morning, and for the Library walls and ceiling to be stripped and the room cleared. Unfortunately, there has been a run on skips in the area - Bank Holiday projects we think, and a skip now won't arrive until Thursday. Nevertheless, the walls and ceiling have been stripped, and the loft cleared of the boxes that were being stored in it. Despite Kerry saying things will move quickly, I wasn't really expecting this when I came home from work:

Also, everyone says you should prepare for the dust - and that you will never imagine how much dust there will actually be. I could dwell on dust every day for the next 3 months, but that could get dull, so I'll end the dust discussions here with a photo of day 1 dust. Only if there is an interesting dusty story, will dust make a reappearance.

The building inspector came round during the day, and the inspection hole has finally been dug to his exacting standards, and he has confirmed that there are sufficient footings under the Library to support a second floor. Now that is a relief! Hole-gate is over.
Our tasks for the evening have been to put all of the empty boxes (speaker boxes, computer boxes, etc) from the little loft into the big loft, out of the way and to clear the utility room out so that Kerry and Jimmy can move the fridge-freezer out tomorrow and then gut it. Sometime soon there will be a new door way in the utility room, and the other doorway will be blocked up. We'll just have to wait and see what is achieved tomorrow.
