Week 10, day 1: Flashing and goodbye to the trusses

07th July 2014
The lead flashing started to go on the roof today - a job that I had no comprehension of exactly what was involved. From what I see, the flashing is cemented in place, and it does not look like a simple little job. The front of the house has been worked on today, and doesn't look finished, so it could easily be Wednesday before the roof is finished. It is always the fiddly bits at the end that take a long time, that aren't necessarily appreciated. We are definitely appreciating the dryness inside!!

Photos 1-3: The flashing!

Also, today was momentous because the old trusses were finally collected, after being sold on eBay for £16! Patrick came from Bedford in a Luton van to pick them up. He will be taking them to his new house near Carcasonne in Southern France, where they will form the roof of his new conservatory. We cut the trusses in half roughly, in order to get them in the van, and because the conservatory will be a lean-to, it will only need to slope one way. We are so pleased that they are going to a good home, and look forward to seeing photos of the finished article.

Photos 4-11: These photos tell the story of the trusses being taken, from lying on their bricks on the lawn, to being sawn in half, to being passed over the fence and stood up against the fence, leaving the cleared lawn, to being loaded into the van.
