Week 13, day 2: Progress with the electrics

29th July 2014
Photo 1: Since we ordered the bathroom wares last week, they have been arriving in batches - and the living room is filling up quickly! Don't think we'll have guests over for a few days.

Whilst we spent the entire day tile shopping, the electrician made excellent progress and the builders built the recessed shelving in the main bathroom, cleared the remaining tiles and boxing from the main bathroom, and demolished the wall in the utility to create a space for the new door to go in. They also did some work on the plumbing pipes, and had a couple of leaks - one of which in the bathroom was pretty big and caused a lingering damp smell for several days.

Photo 2: The new recessed shelving for the shower in the main bathroom, and the electric cabling that will go to the lights fitted inside the shelves.

Photo 3: The electrics next to the bed in the main bedroom - double socket at the bottom, switch in the middle to control each bedside lamp independently and the main lights, and at the top wiring for the wall mounted bedside lamp.

Photo 4: All the electric cabling in the en suite, for the main lights, lights in recessed shelving, shaver sockets and electric towel rail, with the switches all being housed outside.

Photo 5: The wiring for the ceiling lights above the bed has been completed now.

Photos 6 and 7: The main bathroom now looks rather sorry for itself, consisting of a toilet and a sink. The sink is attached to the wall rather precariously now... The bedside tables are being stored in the bathroom currently, and the pot plant adds a lovely bit of colour and life to the room! This is my nan's Peace Lily, and as my inheritance is funding some of the build it seems fitting that the plant has made it into the photos, albeit a little on the dusty side.

Photo 8: The wall in the utility room has been knocked through to create the new door way. As the other walls have not yet been built up, it is all very open down there. It is still very dark, and the builder's least favourite room to work in!

Photo 9: One of our jobs was to put the satellite dish back onto the house, moving it from its temporary home on the garden fence, to the wall of the house. We had to move it fairly soon, as the runner beans would start obscuring the path to the satellite within the next week or so! In rather a similar way to how it was moved to the fence a few months ago, with the use of a compass and the trusty internet, it was attached to the wall outside the main bathroom (accessed via the bathroom window, and via the precariously attached sink...), tuned in in no time at all, and tightened in place. The cables that have been trailing through the conservatory window for the last couple of months, were moved and are now coming through a new hole in the wall of the house, under the floor boards in the bathroom, and down a gap by the new stairs to the under-stairs area where the divi-box is housed. I think the runner beans are happier now.
