Week 4, day 1: It's a bit damp...

27th May 2014
After the long Spring bank holiday weekend, the build is back on today. We are still waiting for the planning permission though, which is due on Thursday, so there is still not a great deal the builders can do. We are both off work this week, so started the day discussing various aspects of the project with the builder for a couple of hours. Meanwhile, the labourer got on with clearing the collapsed wall - throwing broken bricks into the skip, and cleaning cement off whole ones to be reused. For the rest of the day, they fixed the joists that had broken or moved when the wall collapsed on them last week, and they un-attached the tarpaulin so that the outer brick is exposed and ready for the brickie to come and start building up tomorrow.

Now that it is evening, and it has been raining most of the day, the drips through the tarpaulin are filling the buckets nicely. Apparently the wood that has been laid on the floor is moisture resistant, so should not be damaged by the rain. Good job!

Photos 1 and 2: The inside has not really changed from last week (apart from the bricks have been cleared up), but the soggy bits are growing!

Photo 3: Over the weekend, we erected the satellite dish on the back fence, its temporary location until the new walls are up. We saved ourselves a considerable amount of money by using common sense, the internet to tell us the location of the necessary Astra satellite, and a compass to align the dish. Noone was more surprised than us when it actually worked!
