Week 4, day 3: Decision day

29th May 2014
Today was the decision day for the full height extension approval by the council. First off, we had a wager for the time the decision would be posted on the website, which I won since it was posted before 9am. Unfortunately, it wasn't good news and the update simply stated that the application status was "REFUSAL". We still do not have a rationale - will try to establish it tomorrow.

So, this has thrown a spanner in the works, but it is by no means the end of the world. Actually, it has proven a little more complicated (and costly), because the plans had stated that the old roof trusses would be reused. Now that the plans were being scrutinised, it was realised that if we were to reuse the trusses, the ceiling of the new parts upstairs would be less than a metre high. OK for a troupe of 2 year olds, but not much else. So, to cut a long day short, we are having a brand new roof built, beginning tomorrow.

Photos 1 and 2: The brickie did an amazing job with the labourer today - 12 hours laying bricks. They looked absolutely shattered when they left. It has meant that the bricks are now up to one brick below where the roof will come to on the front and back.

The plan for tomorrow will be to start building the roof in. Progress is definitely being made!
