Week 5, day 1: First dormer is in!

02nd June 2014
I can't believe we are already in week 5! In continuing the roof structure from Friday, today several more trusses were erected, and the shape of the front dormer window has been built in.

Photos 1 and 2: The quality of the wood being used is, apparently, exceptional, which means it has been treated to a very high level and will be structurally sound. I knew we'd had a lot of wood on the drive over the weekend, but I didn't realise until seeing it that the trusses would be put up in double or triple. I guess this will add to the strength.

Photo 3: The view across the new bit!

Photo 4: Due to the fact that the the roof will not be full height, we will be having dormer windows. This photo shows how the frame of the dormer window is being constructed.

Photo 5: From the scaffolding, which has gone up a second storey (but I didn't brave going to the top...), one has a lovely view of the bird box we put up last week. We aren't sure if the great tits will like its location; it might be too close to the roof of the lobby, but we will have to wait and see. The back of the house is in full sun all day, so wouldn't have been suitable.
