Week 9, day 1: Purlins are in

30th June 2014
After Thursday's effort with the steel, Friday's day was only a couple of hours, for tidying after leaving in a hurry on Thursday. They were all shattered.

For a couple of weeks now, we've been told that once the gable wall is up and the steel is in, the purlins will be able to go in, and then the building inspector can come out and inspect the roof. Well, today the purlins were cut to shape, holes were cut in the gable wall, and the wood was rested in them. The brick work needs to be built around the steel next.

The builder and the new labourer also fitted the last of the floor boards, which has made a surprisingly huge difference. It looks like a complete upstairs now, not a building site. Apparently, it was quite a tricky job to get the floor level, and at the same level as the existing floor, but they did a great job. In addition, the steel is now standing more upright than it was over the weekend, but I'm not sure if it is fixed to the floor yet. They also spent a couple of hours tidying today, and the house is looking neat; dusty, but neat.

Photos 2 and 3: The extension from the front and side of the room. The floor and lack of clutter make the room look much better than over the weekend.
