Week 9, day 5: The other half the roof is on

04th July 2014
Two labourers were being trialled today, to see which one would work best - I guess we will just have to see who is called to return on Monday. Along with the builder and plasterer, they got to work finishing the majority of the tiling on the roof. All that is left now are the tricky bits and edges. There were not enough tiles for the full roof, using only the tiles they took off the old roof all those weeks ago. So it was decided to use the old tiles on the front, to maintain the street scene, and then use mainly new tiles on the back. The exact tiles were discontinued 20 years ago (builders of the estate must have got a job end in that case, because the house is not much older than that), but a pretty good match has been found, although they don't have the lichen and grot on them that the old ones have. The tops of the dormers have also been done now, and they look great. The sides (or cheeks) will have flat tiles on, which will be finished next week. They worked a long day to get this done today so that we are water tight for a weekend of rain that is coming. I asked for tarpaulin to be fixed to the front of the window holes to stop the bugs coming in at night, I just hope it works! I might have to soak the tarpaulin in citronella if it doesn't work tonight. The windows have not arrived yet, as they did arrive at the warehouse, where one broke. So it has been re-ordered and will be delivered next week, as should the stairs.

Photo 5: Close up of the back dormer, which has had the front finished with cement, very neatly.

Photo 6: View of the house from the side - it doesn't really stand out like it is something new. I think the neighbours will be pleased the blue tarpaulin has gone!
